Solid control is very critical during the oil and gas drilling process, it will maintain the required property of the drilling mud and remove the low gravity solids from the liquid, and finally can make the drilling mud which could be reused and recycled in the drilling mud system. A good solid control process could increase the rate of penetration, reduce the wear and tear of the drilling equipment, such as the pistons, liners of the mud pump and allow for better hole cleaning.

The new composite framed shale shaker screens have the follow features: the steel frame part is welded automatically by robot with higher strength and better quality conformity. The injection molded plastic is mixed with imported fiberglass and it can resists high temperature up to 140 degree, and it’s tougher, more endurable and can work under higher vibration G force. . The heat press of the screens adopts the process of four side tensioning which can minimize the gap between the top and support screens and extend the life of the screens. GN’s shaker screens will be 3 layers with the API number above 60, while other screens manufacturer only use 3 layers until API number above 100. And GN’s mesh supplier is the same as DERRICK and MI SWACO’s. GN’s screen adopts the rectangular wire configuration and the wire is 50% more thicker than the square wire configuration, and it could be used up to 300-700 hours. GN’s composite screens cover GN’S OEM screen, MI SWACO MONGOOSE, BRANDT VENOM, BRANDT KING COBRA, FSI, etc. GN can also customize the screens according to customer’s requirement. All the composite screens are repairable. Comparing to steel framed screens, the non blank area of composite framed screen is 10-20% more. And the composite frame is not easily to get rusted and can be stored up to 5 years.

The system’s first level of separation is the double deck shale shaker, when the mud goes into the lower deck of screen, the large solids will be separated from the mud the fine solids and mud will be dropped into the tank, and the mud will be sucked by the centrifugal pump into the two hydrocyclones which is working like the desander which can separate the solid size up to 40 microns. The solid separated by the hydrocyclone will drop onto the upper deck of the shale shaker, then the solids will be dried further for disposal. The clean mud after the separation by the hydrocyclone will flew back the tank and be pumped back to the wellbore for reuse and recycling. The basic configuration of the mud recycling system is one double deck shale shaker, two hydrocyclones for desanding, one centrifugal pump, one mud tank and some other parts.

Just several months ago, GN Solids Control sold one set of mud recycling system to a UK customer for civil works. This system consists of a double deck shale shaker and a decanter centrifuge. The shale shaker is used for coarse separation to eliminate the large size solids. The screens on the upper deck will have smaller API number than the lower deck, which means the lower deck screen could separate finer solids than the upper deck screen. Then the processed fluids will drop to the tank and then pumped by a screw pump to the decanter centrifuge for further separation. The decanter centrifuge can separate the solid size up to 20 microns. The centrifuge is built tough and need less maintenance during normal operation. The bowl is made of duplex casting 2205 stainless steel, the bearing is made by world famous SKF, the screw conveyor and discharge port are protected by tungsten carbide tiles. There is also tough cover the spring to protect the decanter centrifuge during transportation. And after this separation, the mud could go back to the system to be reused again.
